our Fall/Winter Lecture series starts again. Please note the new
time and place. 7:30 -9:00 PM Wed., held at Spa Fitness, 1100 41st Ave.
For 20 + years Way Of Life brings you free health education. This
tradition of giving back to the community through education began with
Acupuncturist, owner, and health educator Robin London. When Robin
passed the baton on to me, I didn’t realize just how much I would
benefit from each and every lecture.
Our speakers are well educated and very knowledgeable in their
field. Way of Life appreciates their generosity in volunteering
their time and energy. Whether it is learning how to use a product,
discovering fun tips for well being, or taking an in-depth look at a
problem, our lecture series is always self-empowering. Please join me
in exploring a variety of healthy living topics this autumn.

Changing the Way You Feel About Change
Change can be scary. Change is also what makes you stronger and allows you to become more than what you thought you could be. You may fear change because you expect it to be hard. There is an alternative way of looking at change that you'll find a lot more motivating. Instead of fearing it, you can instead trust that you can get through change just fine by making small steps (goals) and working at a pace that feels safe to you.
It is normal to fear the unknown. Rather than thinking of change as an unknown and possibly unsafe "thing," visualize what it is you want to change. For example, if you want to lose weight but feel that you are afraid and resistant and not really sure why, stop for a minute and think about it. I mean really think about it. Is feeling better about yourself, being healthier, and looking healthy scary? Instead of seeing yourself as someone who can never reach their ideal, see yourself as the person you want to become. Close your eyes and picture it in your mind. Feeling good, feeling strong, feeling in control. Is that what you are afraid of?!
When you really think about it, you'll find, as I have, that we psych ourselves out. Change can be a wonderful thing, especially if it is something that you are in charge of and are setting the road course for how it will happen. Embrace your powerful role in making your life what you want it to be! It is an exciting and wonderful thing. Don't be afraid; understand it for what it is.
Make Yourself a Priority
In order to change, you have to . . . guess what? Change! For many of us, part of that change includes making ourselves a priority. Say goodbye to the days of putting everyone and everything else before your needs. If you can't put your own health on a pedestal, it'll never get there. It is up to you. Set an example for the cherished people in your life: teaching them to make their health a priority is one of the best lessons they will ever learn.
